The Upshur Arts Alliance, Inc. is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1982. It promotes, enhances and contributes to the educational, artistic and cultural lives of residents of Upshur County.
Upshur County offers one public school system and one private system that provide K-12 education. Graduating students can move on to the county’s own West Virginia Wesleyan College.
The Upshur County School District is comprised of seven elementary schools, one middle school, one high school as well as one technical center which serves students from Upshur, Lewis and Barbour counties.
Founded in 1890, West Virginia Wesleyan College is a private residential college affiliated with The United Methodist Church. The College has 1,400 students and offers 49 majors and 34 minors along with graduate programs in athletic training, business administration, and education.
Upshur County is home to excellent assisted living and nursing homes.
St. Joseph’s Hospital is located adjacent to the Medical Plaza housing St. Joseph’s Physicians.
St. Joseph’s PromptCare Walk-In service, located next to the Emergency Department, is staffed with Emergency trained physicians and physician assistants from WVU’s Department of Emergency Medicine.
The hospital is also home to a long-term Nursing Care Facility that in 2012 was awarded the Best in the State designation from U.S. News and World Report.

Upshur County consists of one city and several smaller communities. Buckhannon, the county seat, is located on the north end of the county while Rock Cave is at the south end of the county.
The community of Tallmansville is located near the center of the county. Interstate 79 is only 11 miles from Buckhannon. This gives quick, easy access for traveling north on Interstate 79 to Pittsburgh or south to Charleston.
Upshur County is a short drive from all the amenities offered in nearby Clarksburg, Bridgeport and Morgantown, WV.
